- This was my first airplane, a 1947 Cessna 140 that I bought when I graduated from college. The spring steel landing gear on the old tail-dragger Cessnas made them ideal for off airport operation. In this image it is parked on the side of Iron Boulder Hill in Sioux County, North Dakota. I'd land rolling uphill, take-off was done downhill; irregardless of wind direction.
